A friend told me that while at a quiet anchor or off shore, she will cook pasta in sea water. What a great way to save on fresh water!
Clever me, here at an isolated anchorage without another boat in sight, I decided to cook rice in sea water. Not only would I save fresh water, but also broth, by using consomé de mar! I had neglected to recall that you throw out most of the water when cooking pasta, but rice uses it all. It was just a bit too salty. Blech.
